Whether it is a tank, a taxi, or a fire truck, you can pretty much do anything you want with the game, but it comes with some caveats. If there is one thing Zombie Driver does, it is take advantage of the fad about zombies and do just about everything you’d think about doing with any vehicle when faced with tons of zombies. If the car chases and speed runs are not your thing, jump into the Slaugher mode where your objective is to survive as long as possible while ramping up enormous kill combos and annihilating endless waves of zombies on specially crafted arenas. Earn loads of cash while you progress through the events, unlock new rides and purchase weapons of mass destruction to become the ultimate Blood Race leaderboard champion. If you get tired of rescuing people, take part in the Blood Race tournament.Ĭhase other cars and take them down without mercy on special racing tracks populated with the zombie horde. Time is the enemy and your car is a weapon as you race through the streets smashing everything on your way including fences, phone booths, street lamps and hordes of zombies. Even that carrot isn’t tantalizing enough to spend more than a few minutes in either mode.Welcome to our review of Zombie Driver: Immortal Edition, a game that lets you mow down tons of zombies by driving straight through em!įight your way through the streets of a zombie-infested city to save the survivors of a disastrous chemical accident that changed most of the city’s population into mindless brain-hungry monsters. Advancing in these modes unlocks new vehicles for use in the campaign. Again, this can be mildly entertaining for one round but not much after that. Slaughter tasks players with surviving against increasingly dense waves of zombies for as long as possible think of it as Zombie Driver’s sort-of spin on Horde mode. Every race features a different stipulation like having to destroy the other competitors or racing through checkpoints with a bomb attached to the car. It’s not great thanks to the aforementioned driving and boring track designs, but at least the contests promote variety. Blood Race features traditional races, single or tournament, against AI opponents. Two modes exist outside of the campaign: Blood Race and Slaughter. The uninteresting story and grimy presentation doesn’t help things either. This stagnation makes the overly long campaign a slog to complete. Even boss battles are designed identically. There are maybe four types of zombies and you’re stuck battling them throughout the entire game without any additional variations. These departures from the formula don’t occur nearly enough, though. My favorite missions give you a tank to blow scores of enemies to bloody bits. Zombie Driver does try to mix things up, albeit barely. Hundreds of zombies flood the streets to the point that plowing through them is the only option. The arsenal can at least be upgraded to more powerful forms. Weaponry, unfortunately, is more limited you get a minigun, flamethrower, rockets, and a rail gun. Vehicles can include cabs, limos, buses, and more. As an unnamed civilian cab driver, the military tasks you with performing errands in a city overrun by a zombie outbreak. Zombie Driver’s bland, 30+ level campaign acts as the meat of the package. However, flawed controls and repetitive mission design infect the experience like a bite from the infected. This vehicular take on zombie slaying, an enhanced port of the 2009 original including its DLC for the Nintendo Switch, can be entertaining in brief doses. Mowing down hordes of undead in a cab outfitted with a minigun should be a blast but Zombie Driver: Immortal Edition manages to turn that gory fantasy into a tedious bore. Instead providing high-octane thrills, Zombie Driver will have you sleeping at the wheel thanks to its bland and repetitive mission design.
