2/13/2023 0 Comments Time sink video gamesNow, I have an insane amount of gil, and all my other characters are Level 15 as well, so I'm particularly overpowered, but that's how I play RPGs. I didn't need to do that, but I wanted to have one more spell slot for him, and that meant grinding for about 30-45 minutes at the Finger Peninsula/Power Peninsula, whatever you want to call it. In traditional JRPGs, that means walking back and forth in the overworld for hours until you have the drops/level/money you wanted to move forward.įor example, I just level-grinded from 13-15 so my Red Mage could learn Level 5 Spells in Final Fantasy. In games like Xenoblade or Xenoblade X, that means walking everywhere, and fighting everything you see that is 10 levels under or above you, no matter what. There are studies on both sides of the fence, including a 2009 IMPACT Trial of 487 adults, led. In games like The Elder Scrolls or Fallout, that means no fast traveling! That means walking everywhere, discovering new areas, fighting all of the things. The current state of research into video games and cognitive development is, bluntly, inconclusive. to buy all the most up-to-date armor, weapons, and spells available in a new town. I know that makes me weird, but I love to fight enemies, find their weakness, exploit them, get all their drops, and get to a point where they are of no threat to me, and then move on. Well I did for about 30 hours and hated the grind so much I just stopped playing it and never went back to it. This is exactly why after my WiiU external hard drive died and needed a format, I didn't restart Hyrule Warriors. Honestly I don't fnd it fun grinding the game stages over and over for well over 100 hours just to grind up chracter levels. Seriously though adventure mode takes serious grinding to be at a high enough level to do the larder adventure mode squares well. Well that's like a game with 90% or more of the entire game side content. If you say Hyrule Warriors is just the campaign + side content. Hyrule Warriors on the other hand, it's time sink is just not fun past a certain point. Once again dragging a classic franchise into the mud, Double Dragon II Wander of the Dragons is perhaps the worst beat ‘em up brawler ever made. Fun time sinks, like Xeboblade Chronicles X, Diablo series games and others aregood because you enjoy the time sink the game forces on you. This does not make the latter type of game always bad. You can't progress in the game at your own pace, it's only slow and grindy because the game makes you do it.
